An art form on the verge of extinction, Kuba textiles are made from raffia palm fibres dyed with natural dyes, hand-woven on a traditional loom and finished with techniques such as embroidery or patchwork.
The patterns feature geometric shapes, abstract motifs and symbolic representations that reflect aspects of the culture, history and spiritual beliefs of the ancient Kingdom of Kuba, in the heart of what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo.
