The Emi collection stems from the ambition to bring technology and quality from the professional world into lighting for domestic and hospitality settings. Flos’ proprietary technology gives birth to a programme of luminaires with compact dimensions equipped with a patented anti-glare optical unit, called Light Shadow.
The light is emitted from very deep cones, so that you don't see the light source. Light is actually coming from the lamp so it's almost a paradox.
«The light modules inform the light's triangular nature, which is reflected throughout its design. The main section, the pole, and the stands all share this shape, creating a cohesive and visually balanced structure. We found it interesting to replace the usual logic of rectangular geometry with a purely triangular approach. Triangles offer many structural qualities with the minimum use of materials, and they reinvent usual geometry, playing with perspective in a special manner». - Erwan Bouroullec
Erwan Bouroullec is known for his work in furniture and lighting design with his brother Ronan. In 1999, they set-up their Paris design studio. Described by The New York Times as “representing poetic practicality”, the brothers’ creations span multiple fields of expression: bridging art and design, passing through craftsmanship, furniture and architecture.
Erwan and Ronan Bouroullec have co-created iconic designs for the likes of Vitra, Hay, Flos, Cassina, Ligne Roset, Magis, Mutina, Established & Sons and Kvadrat. Their designs are held in some of the world’s most coveted permanent collections, exhibitions have been devoted to their work, and monographs have been published, cataloguing some of their outstanding creations.
In recent years, the duo have expanded their repertoire into the public realm, bringing modern relevance to historic sites such as Bourse de Commerce - Pinault Collection (Paris, 2021) and the Champs-Elysées fountains (Paris, 2019). Erwan and Ronan’s collaboration is an ongoing dialogue, nourished by distinct personalities and their individual artistic experimentation.
