Echoing the organic curves and fluid contours of the F300, the T877 Side Table is the ideal companion to Pierre Paulin’s timeless lounge chair. Like the F300, the table is light- weight and easy to carry, so it can be moved around effortlessly, and works well both on its own and in clusters.
The T877 is crafted from injection-molded HiREK®, a patented material made in Italy and often used in high-end furniture components and luxury car interiors. Comprising a dynamically expanded inner structure encased in an external aesthetic film, HiREK is a 100% recyclable, multi-layered, variable-density engineered polymer made using industrial plastic waste.
Legendary French furniture designer Pierre Paulin best rode the 1960’s and 70’s with his recognizable and innovative style that instantly revolutionized everyday furniture. Born to a French father and a Swiss-German mother, Pierre Paulin (1927-2009) grew up in France.
After his studies, an apprenticeship and some travelling to Scandinavia and the United States, Paulin went on to design his own furniture, embarking upon successful collaborations with Thonet and Artifort, designing furniture pieces which have become sought-after classics. He cited Ray and Charles Eames and George Nelson among his influences and, like Nelson, considered himself a functionalist who added “two little drops of poetry” to his work.
A joyful modernist, Paulin’s low-slung pieces provided a new laidback perspective on life and his forward-looking, eclectic and sculptural approach to furniture design instantly caught the mood of the swinging 60’s. The hedonistic, sinuous style of Paulin’s design also attracted the patronage of presidents Georges Pompidou and François Mitterrand, who asked him to redecorate parts of the Elysée Palace in the 1970’s and 80’s.
Before he died, Paulin created a family enterprise called ‘Paulin, Paulin, Paulin’ to fulfil his desire to see his unrealized designs put into production. After his death, has evolved into something with a bigger purpose – to win the man and his work the recognition he deserved within his lifetime but was too modest to pursue.
