Each home’s unique atmosphere inspires serenity and blends art, architecture and nature in an alchemy of Vervoordt expression.

Portraits of Interiors is a book that includes seventeen projects in America, Belgium, England, France, Italy, and Spain, as well as Axel Vervoordt Company’s first work in India, Russia, and Japan.

Published in the fiftieth year of the company’s existence, the firm has been a pioneering leader in the evolution and exploration of diverse cultural traditions and eras to create singular homes all over the world. Demonstrated in this new book, the company’s projects feature a range of traditional and contemporary elements that are rooted in the past and connected to the future.

The book’s guiding concepts are seeking a universal spirit of life and the emotional feeling of oneness that a home can provide.

Throughout its 320 pages, the book’s guiding concepts are seeking a universal spirit of life and the emotional feeling of oneness that a home can provide.

Under the arcades of the Théâtre de l'Odéon, young Ernest Flammarion ran a bookshop, located right opposite the Grand Café-Restaurant Voltaire, which at the time was an important political and literary meeting place. It was in the heart of this district frequented by intellectuals that Ernest Flammarion decided to expand his business by publishing books.

Over the years, Flammarion specialised in literature, publishing a wide range of classical, modern and popular authors. In the first half of the 20th century, its catalogue opened up to other fields, such as history, philosophy, art books, children's books, practical books, current affairs books, medical books and popular science books.

Since its creation in 1875, the company has always been committed to pursue the ambition of its founder: "To offer the best content to the greatest number of people".
