ANTIQUE ART 057
Vase H.50cm
West Germany. Circa 1970.
Glazed ceramic vase by Karlsruhe. This producer, established in 1901 aimed to produce ceramics in the Italian Renaissance style, and was founded by artists Wilhelm Süs and Hans Thoma. Initially focusing on designs featuring cherubs on a blue background, the company expanded to architectural and outdoor ceramics by the end of the decade. Over the years, ownership of the pottery changed hands, and renowned designers like Ludwig König and Max Läuger contributed to its success. Bomb damage in 1944 disrupted production until the 1950s, when decorative goods production resumed, employing both in-house and freelance designers.
