Tizio is not only a masterpiece of Artemide collection but also an icon of Italian design.

Designed 50 years ago, it is still absolutely contemporary also thanks to a new integrated LED source.

An elegant synthesis of intelligent components elaborated by Richard Sapper has created a timeless product.

"When we presented it, there was nothing like it on the market, it was revolutionary. Tizio is beautiful in any different position, it is a harmonious object in all its parts, you move it with one hand and it is always extremely precise. It is not that we don't change anything over the years because we can't, we don't change anything because that's the way it is." – Ernesto Gismondi, 2014.

Ricard Sapper (1932 – 2015) began his design career in the styling department of Mercedes Benz in Stuttgart, before transferring to Milan in 1958 to work with the architect Gio Ponti. In the early 1960s, Sapper began to collaborate with the Italian architect Marco Zanuso, and they became known for their aesthetic of sculptural minimalism, working for Brionvega, Kartell and for Siemens/Italtel.

Upon starting his own independent studio in 1959, Sapper designed the Static clock for Lorenz, which won him his first Compasso d’Oro award in 1960, and from then on Sapper continued to create design classics, including the Tizio lamp for Artemide, designed in 1972, an instant design icon, that remains one of the best-selling lamps ever produced to this day.

Richard Sapper has received numerous awards for his products, including the Compasso d'Oro lifetime achievement award from the Associazione Design Industriale ADI, in 2014, and many of his designs have been included in the permanent collections of the most importants museums around the world.

Founded in 1960 by Ernesto Gismondi, Artemide is one of the most known illumination brands in the world. Known for its "The Human Light" philosophy, Artemide boasts high skills in light design and innovation, with products originating from research and high-quality manufacturing.
