Soft Corners is a collection of architectural pieces that can be combined in different ways to create dynamic arrangements suited to any setting. Dutch designer Linde Freya Tangelder has designed an industrial style side table with clean lines and a sculptural look. Made of stainless steel or textured, it is composed of three pieces, assembled through a complex process that hides the connections from view. It echoes the same curved design of the ottomans but with a captivating interplay of positive and negative spaces. The open, functional lines of this piece can be adapted to different interpretations of use in addition to providing a table-top surface, magazines or objects can be placed inside it.

Soft Corners is a product of the experimental work of Linde Freya Tangelder during her IN Residence experience in Turin, Italy. Thanks to the cultural support of Cassina, consistently committed to promoting shows and cultural initiatives, the designer had the opportunity to investigate the relationship between limited-edition collection design and larger-scale furniture production, and to craft a project perfectly balanced between the two.

Linde Freya Tangelder, born in 1987, in Doetinchem, The Netherlands, is a multi-disciplinary Dutch talent known for her roles as an artist, furniture designer, and interior designer, primarily based in Belgium. As the visionary founder of the design studio Destroyers/Builders, Tangelder draws inspiration from the intersection of human interactions with architectural components, materials, and building methodologies. Her design ethos is rooted in meticulous research, aiming to strike a harmonious balance between contemporary aesthetics and traditional elements.

During her studies, a transformative internship at the Unfold Design Studio in Antwerp in 2011 exposed her to the groundbreaking world of 3D clay printing. Yet, it was through this experience that she realized her true passion lay in the tactile craftsmanship of manual work. Subsequently, prior to completing her studies, Tangelder sought further enrichment through an internship at Campana Brothers in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

In 2019, Tangelder was named Designer of the Year by Biennale Interieur in Belgium and in 2023, she was awarded with the Edida Young Design Talent of the Year.

Established in 1927 by Cesare and Umberto Cassina in Meda, near Milan, Cassina launched industrial design in Italy in the 1950s, based on a totally innovative approach that marked the transition from artisan production to mass production. Throughout its history, Cassina has been a melting pot of design luminaries. In the 1950s, it forged an iconic partnership with architects like Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand, creating legendary pieces such as the LC1 Sling Chair and LC2 Grand Confort sofa. These collaborations revolutionized furniture design, emphasizing form and function in equal measure.

One of Cassina's remarkable aspects is its ability to transcend eras. The brand's reissues of iconic designs retain their original essence while adapting to modern sensibilities, appealing to new generations of design enthusiasts. This blend of heritage and contemporary relevance is exemplified in pieces like the LC4 Chaise Longue, a timeless icon of comfort and style. Cassina's collaborations extend beyond mid-century architects. It has partnered with contemporary designers like Philippe Starck, Patricia Urquiola, and Jaime Hayon, infusing fresh perspectives into its collections. These collaborations merge diverse design philosophies, resulting in eclectic yet harmonious pieces that resonate with a broad audience.

In the present design landscape, Cassina stands as a bastion of innovation and heritage, continuously pushing boundaries while honoring its rich legacy. Its commitment to craftsmanship, combined with a forward-thinking approach, ensures its relevance and enduring influence in the ever-evolving world of design.
