Australian artist Stacey Rees balances the figurative and the abstract with her first collection for Paper Collective.
For Rejoice, Rees began with dominating tones of red and pink, from which a portrait in neutral tones and deep green emerges. Subtle yet striking features defines the abstracted female form.
Stacey Rees has held solo and group exhibitions throughout Australia since 2018. Having studied design at RMIT Melbourne her work has been profiled in many publications including Vogue Australia, The Design Files, Sight Unseen and Yellowtrace. Her work is held in collections in corporate Australia along with private collections both locally and internationally.
“I approach my paintings with a spontaneous and relaxed mindset, allowing the brush to move freely without overthinking each stroke. My process often begins by selecting a dominant, or 'hero', colour that sets the tone for the entire piece.” - Stacey Rees
