Originally designed by Mario Bellini in 1966 and reissued by HAY, Amanta Sofa embodies the essence of innovative mid-century Italian design. A modular seating solution defined by its sculptural design and organic, low-slung silhouette, Amanta continues to stand out for its timeless ingenuity.

With modular units that work alone or together, the sofa’s flexible design is an example of the designer’s multidisciplinary expertise in form and function. Crafted with architectural precision from at least 99% post-consumer recycled ABS, the shell is complemented by 94% biomass-balanced foam cushions that deliver ergonomic support, with all components designed for disassembly.

Born in Italy in 1935, Mario Bellini is a visionary designer and architect who played a central role in shaping Italian design through the latter part of the 20th century. He graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1959 and founded his own studio in 1962, embarking on a career defined by a multidisciplinary, conceptual approach. His deep understanding of proportion and shape has been central to his success, allowing him to seamlessly merge form and function across furniture, industrial design, and architecture. His original and influential creations have earned him numerous accolades, including eight Golden Compass awards.

From 1985 to 1991, he served as editor of Domus magazine and in recognition of his enduring legacy, the Milan Triennale awarded him the Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement in 2015 and dedicated a retrospective exhibition to his work in 2017. Together with HAY, he has reissued the Amanta Sofa, originally designed in 1966. The design is part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.

Founded in Copenhagen in 2002, HAY was born out of a desire to make high-quality, architectural design accessible to a wider audience. Founders Rolf and Mette Hay set out to collaborate with the world’s most talented and forward-thinking contemporary designers to create pieces that are functional, beautiful, and fundamentally joyful.

HAY doesn't just look to traditional furniture design for inspiration. Their vibrant color palettes, clean structural lines, and unexpected materials are heavily influenced by the dynamism of modern fashion, the structure of architecture, and the original spirit of contemporary art.

In today’s world, the lines between our personal and professional spaces are more fluid than ever. HAY designs with this modern reality in mind. Whether it's a sleek lounge chair, a cleverly designed desk lamp, or even a beautifully minimalist toothbrush, HAY reimagines the everyday objects we interact with, infusing them with fresh energy and functional longevity.
