The result of an eight-year journey, Daniel Rybakken's Petit Standard is a study in precision and considered details. With the objective of creating a highly stackable chair, where the stackable features would actually enhance the chair's design, Petit Standard fuses elegance and functionality in an iconic design. Using die-cast aluminium and steel tubes that connect into a three-dimensional triangle, the lightweight frame has a distinctively geometric silhouette, which is counterbalanced by the warmth and natural quality of the oak-veneer seat and backrest. The high back and curved seat ensure great comfort, while the rigid tubing optimises the chair's strength and stacking ability, making it ideal for corporate environments, educational institutions, and private settings.

Born in 1984, Daniel Rybakken grew up in Oslo, Norway. He studied design at the Oslo School of Architecture and the School of Arts & Crafts in Gothenburg, Sweden before beginning his own practice there in 2008. Rybakken has received numerous awards, including the “Best of the Best” Red Dot Award in Singapore in 2007; the Anders Jahre’s Cultural Prize for Young Artists in Oslo in 2008; the Design Report Award for best designer at Salone Satellite in Milan in 2009; the Bruno Mathsson Award in 2011 and the London Design Medal and the Golden Chair from the Swedish Association of Architects in 2013. Focusing on the power of daylight, his work occupies the area between art and design, including limited editions, art installations, and prototypes for serial production. For HAY, he has designed Petit Standard and Arbour Collection in collaboration with Andreas Engesvik.

Founded in Copenhagen in 2002, HAY was born out of a desire to make high-quality, architectural design accessible to a wider audience. Founders Rolf and Mette Hay set out to collaborate with the world’s most talented and forward-thinking contemporary designers to create pieces that are functional, beautiful, and fundamentally joyful.

HAY doesn't just look to traditional furniture design for inspiration. Their vibrant color palettes, clean structural lines, and unexpected materials are heavily influenced by the dynamism of modern fashion, the structure of architecture, and the original spirit of contemporary art.

In today’s world, the lines between our personal and professional spaces are more fluid than ever. HAY designs with this modern reality in mind. Whether it's a sleek lounge chair, a cleverly designed desk lamp, or even a beautifully minimalist toothbrush, HAY reimagines the everyday objects we interact with, infusing them with fresh energy and functional longevity.
